The Process

This semester-long project for Typography III challenged us to select a topic starting from the word MOTIVATE. Using my mind map, I was able to go from MOTIVATE to FENG SHUI.

My book Organizing the Disorganized was created with the aim of helping people understand the basics of feng shui as well as how it came to be what it is today.

The Book

The main portion of this project consisted of creating a book of roughly 60 pages to inform the reader of our chosen topic and elevate it through its layout and overall design.

Throughout my book, I used a warm color palette of blue, yellow, cream, and brown to evoke a feeling of ancient and old knowledge, since feng shui is an ancient Chinese practice. The images throughout my book have a blue overlay with a grid to mimic house blueprints. The front and back covers as well as the chapter headers bring this grid back more visibly.

The Poster

We were then tasked with creating a poster. I chose to create a poster to advertise the release of the book, Organizing the Disorganized. For my poster, I chose a more minimal aesthetic with lots of white space. I brought in some of the elements from my book for visual cohesion. It also includes a QR code which will lead to a hypothetical website.

The Motion Graphic

The final part of this project was to create a motion graphic. This graphic advertised the release of the book while pulling design elements from it.
